Resident Rotation and Elective Information
Welcome to the resident page! Multiple levels of residents (R1-R3) and disciplines (FM/Psych/EM) complete rotations and electives in Emergency Medicine at UHNBC. This page contains important information relevant to resident learners.
Schedule
The ER schedule can be accessed on the ER Schedule page.
Each resident is expected to complete 14 shifts per 4 week block of ER. You will have a mix of shifts. You will be expected to work nights and weekends, just as we do.
Orientation for Shifts
Please see the Orientation Page to complete the necessary modules prior to starting your rotation/elective.
Rotation Assignments
Starting July 1, 2021 for Rotation Residents
Each resident will be expected to complete 3 topic assignments during any 4 week block OR develop a topic assignment for future residents to complete during their rotation.
See the ER Classroom page for further details.
Evaluation
At the end of each shift, you are responsible for having an end of shift feedback form filled out by the staff physician you worked with. They are available in the ER Doc's Room or you can print them off yourself.
Resident End of Shift Evaluation Form
Please keep your end of shift evaluations. They are to be submitted to the DSSL at the midpoint and end of your rotation. Electronic format is preferred (scan, photos). Genius scan is a great app to make this an easy task!
Leaves and Protected Time
For FM residents: The schedule has been designed to keep free Thursday night and Friday open to protect your academic day. Residents who's home site is UHNBC generally will have Friday night off as well for "Call Free Friday".
You are required to complete a minimum of 75% of your rotation to pass the rotation—this works out to be 11 shifts. This includes absences for pre approved vacation time, conferences, education days and sick time. If you miss more than 4 shifts in a rotation block it will be necessary to reschedule shifts to make your 75% requirement.
