UHNBC ER Classroom
Starting July 1, 2021, all residents who complete a rotation at UHNBC will be required to complete self-directed assignments. Assignments will be completed for each block (4 weeks) done at UHNBC.
This replaces the Grand Rounds presentation that was previously done by residents.
Each assignment option carries a particular point value which takes into account the relative work associated with the assignment. Assignments are worth 1, 2 or 3 points.
Complete 3 points of your choice per ER rotation block OR develop an educational activity (3 points) to add to the website for use by future residents.
This is a "choose your own adventure" deal. Pick topics that interest you, that you need to do a deeper dive around or perhaps something you haven't seen yet on shifts. If you want to develop an educational activity to expand the options available for the residents who come after you--please see the info below.
TOPICS
Assignments are organized by general topic area into "courses" below--ie. airway will take you to different assignments related to airways. If you do not have a google account, you will need to register for a free one for access to the Google Classroom portal.

If you elect to develop a new educational activity: please email uhnbcerlearners@gmail.com to discuss.
In general, it would be advised to approach an ER staff physician or allied health professional (depending on context of your activity) for feedback and guidance for your chosen topic. Inspiration for your topic may come from a case seen in the ED or identification of a learning objective which you have not yet encountered in clinical practice but wish to learn more about.
The format of your activity is your choice but may include: assessment of available online resources and creation of a quiz type assignment, development of your own multimedia presentation (video, podcast episode) for consumption by colleagues, identification of a series of important journal club papers related to a topic which you complete a critical appraisals on to act as an "answer key" for future learners, development of a "pocket card" relevant to Emergency Medicine, creation of a "how to video" focusing on an area of clinical competence, etc. Depending on the scope of your selected project, you may work in pairs to develop your activity. Your activities will be made available for other learners on the website with credit applied to you on the site.
